American singer-songwriter Lionel Richie has amassed a net worth of $200 million. Richie is one of the bestselling music artists in the world of all time. He has sold over 100 million albums around the world. He began his career as one of the members of the group Commodores and began his solo career in 1982 with the release of his eponymous album, Lionel Richie, which helped him breakthrough in the music industry.
In the early 60s, Richie formed more than a few R&B groups as a student. In 1968, he joined the Commodores as their singer and also played the saxophone. After moderate successes of the albums, Louder Than Words and Time, Richie made a comeback with his eight album, Coming Home, which consisted his biggest hit yet, I Call it Love. He released another album, Just Go, in 2009. His tenth album was released in 2012. Tuskegee featured vocal collaborations with artists like Jason Aldean, Blake Shelton, Rascal Flatts, Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw and Shania Twain.
Born on June 20, 1949 in Tuskegee, Alabama, Lionel Brockman Richie, Jr. attended Tuskegee Institute for a brief period of time and became involved in music during this time. He is the adoptive father of reality star Nicole Richie whom he adopted when she was two with his then wife, Brenda Harvey. He allegedly cheated on Harvey, whom he had been married to since 1975, while they were married with Diane Alexander. They divorced in 1993 and Richie tied the knot with Alexander in 1995. He has two children with Alexander. The couple divorced in 2004.
Richie is a supporter of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and has raised millions of dollars for the foundation.
